Design dilemma in your home? Laney Reusch, owner of Reusch Interior Design and Studio Piper, answers her most asked questions about design.
Our design team visits many Hyde Park homes and while our clients design issues vary from kitchen remodels and furniture placement, to window coverings and wallpaper, our top questions are always related to lighting and paint.
Where to buy great lighting is our top question, and I understand why—there are so many options! And if you have ever searched for the perfect chandelier or sconce, you know that many of those options are dated. Our favorite place to search for lighting is online—try CircaLighting.com or ShadesOfLight.com They both offer stellar, up to date lighting options in many price ranges and finishes. Style issues aside, remember that when you shop for lighting, always check scale and number of lights in the fixture: measure twice, buy once!
Just like lighting, paint colors can be difficult to choose with so many options! The good news is that neutral walls, which allow your furniture and artwork to take center stage, are still trending. Stay away from the cool grays of 2015 and lean into the warmer greiges. Our top neutral wall color picks are Benjamin Moore’s Edgecomb Gray & Classic Gray. Our favorite whites for trim & walls are Chantilly Lace & White Dove. Remember to try before you buy as lighting has a huge effect on paint colors—Ace Hardware in the Plaza can mix up a small sample for you in a few minutes.
