Meet Rikki | Hyde Park Moms

Meet Rikki. Mom to Harry, wife, amazing girlfriend and small business owner of j + porter home – check it out! We became friends through instagram and this website and I cannot be more thankful to know Rikki. This new Hyde Park Mom instantly makes you feel comfortable with her Southern Kentucky Charm.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Hyde Park?
I love being able to explore different stores and restaurants all within walking distance of each other.  We love to park and walk and discover new places.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
Harry, 9 months

Favorite things to do with your kids around town (can be outside of HP)?
The zoo, Harry went for the first time recently and loved the elephants! King Arthur’s Court’s Toys has become a favorite spot of ours, too. We also love to go out to eat at some of the local places around town.

Do you have a favorite local store, fitness class or restaurant and why?
I love Define Oakley! They offer kid care which is wonderful for moms to be able to drop their littles off and get a great workout in.
Our favorite restaurant right now is Cork & Cap, the servers are SO accommodating to Harry and there are always other kids there too!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I own a small online home goods and gifts store, j + porter home. I also work part time at Define Oakley!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
The moms I have met since being here have been everything! They are all amazing and sometimes it is just as simple as having a conversation and hearing “me too” that gets me through some of my days. This blog has also been a HUGE help in navigating so many things when first moving to the neighborhood and in everyday life as well!

Tips for Balancing it all? Motherhood, career, family and social life?
Wine! Ha, kidding, but really, carving out some ‘me time’ every day. Whether it’s 5 min during a nap time or an hour or two after Harry’s bed time to binge on Netflix with my husband, I always try to set aside some time to just decompress. My husband is also a huge help and a big supporter of me being able to grow my business and have girl time away from the house!

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
Take it one day at a time. Some days are better than others, but you always have another shot to get it right the next day!

What is the best advice you would like to give to a new mom?
Find some mommy friends. It’s so helpful to have a group of girls that have been there and can help you along the way to know that you’re not alone!
