Meet Laney | Hyde Park Moms

You are in for a treat getting to know this woman! The first time I met Laney, it was like I had known her for years – friendly and welcoming. This Hyde Park Mom is hustling with her busy Interior Design business and just launched a a spin-off business for those who don’t have a full design budget. I’m definitely going to be using her to help make my home feel beautiful! Get to know Laney.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Hyde Park?
There’s no place like Hyde Park,  I wouldn’t want to raise a family anywhere else!  The community feel is unmatched and the old houses are amazing–don’t get me started on those!  On a summer Sunday, walking through the farmers market is simply idyllic. Where else can you get that?

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
We are in the throws if the teenage years with three daughters!  My daughter, Piper, is thirteen, and my stepdaughters Peyton, & Sydney, are 14 & 16.

Favorite things to do with your kids around town (can be outside of HP)?
Our kids aren’t that into the Zoo or children’s museum anymore but they love to go to Smale park downtown or go to local events such as the church festivals or the Hyde Park art show..  Going to Joseph Beth is also a favorite, although now it’s browsing the books instead of playing with the train table! In the summer we are usually at Mt. Lookout Swim Club at least once a week.

Do you have a favorite local store, fitness class or restaurant and why?
Do I have to pick just one?  I’m at Coffee Emporium usually twice a day.  Burrito for lunch and something sweet in the afternoon–the staff is so friendly & the outdoor area is perfection.  It also helps that my office is next door! Arthurs is another favorite: Black bean burger, fries, and a Corona!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
My design firm, Reusch Interior Design, is my passion!  I started the business from my home in 2010 when my daughter was in Kindergarten at Kilgour, and gradually over time built it up to what it is today.  Our busy team’s office is located in Hyde Park, right in the heart of where most of our client’s homes are. This year, we also started Studio Piper, which is an Interior Design consultation company for those who need the help of a professional Interior Designer for just a few hours.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
The friends and contacts I have made in Hyde Park and the surrounding areas have been instrumental in making my life what it is today both personally and professionally.  The support of the community as a mother and business owner has been incredible. I couldn’t be me without them.

Tips for Balancing it all? Motherhood, career, family and social life?
Balance is so hard!  You really can have it all–just not all at the same time.  I was a full time mom when my daughter was little, but now as an entrepreneur working long days is a must for me.  When I’m home I try to be as present as possible with my family so I can make the most of my time. Planning ahead social time with friends is essential because if it’s not on the calendar it doesn’t happen!

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?
The days are long but the years are short–this is so true!  I remember the sleepless nights as a mom of a baby thinking–will I ever feel human again?  But at the same time it all passed in the blink of an eye.

What is the best advice you would like to give to a new mom?
Relax and trust your gut.  You’ve got this!
