Meet Becca | Hyde Park Moms

I am so thrilled to share an inspiring Mom with you – Meet Becca! She’s certainly lives up to the name “Super Mom” with all the amazing things she’s doing for children in our community, running a business that educates young kids and, of course, being the best Mama to her son, Henry. Get to know more about Becca!

What’s your favorite thing about living in Hyde Park?

My favorite thing about living in Hyde Park is the places to walk and all the tucked away green spaces to visit.  We can always find something to do very close to home.  Our favorite places to run around include the Observatory and the rose gardens at Ault Park.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Henry – 16 months

Favorite things to do with your kids around town (can be outside of HP)?

We love to walk to places like Ault Park and the Observatory and run around.  Henry particularly loves spotting all the dogs out for walks around town.

Do you have a favorite local store, fitness class or restaurant and why?

Our favorite spot for a celebration is Red Feather, for grab and go we love Rooted, and our version of COVID carryout is some Dewey’s dough for make-at-home pizza.

Staying true to my love of literacy, Joseph Beth for some good books and Poeme for greeting cards are my favorite spots.  We also love swinging into Castle House for Henry or the best baby gifts around!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I am the owner of Becca’s Book Box and Tutoring Services.  I had every intention of continuing to teach at the University of Cincinnati, but fell in love with the one-on-one setting of tutoring.  I have a Masters in Early Childhood Education and a PhD in Literacy and lead a team of tutors who are all rockstars in both teaching and their love of kids!  We serve students in preschool through high school and college.  We are also currently helping families prepare materials to work with their children at home as well.  And stay tuned for more exciting things in the works!  Follow me @beccasbookbox on both Instagram and Facebook.

When I am not spending time with my family and working on all things Becca’s Book Box, I serve Wordplay Cincy in a variety of ways.  They are a local non-profit helping children, particularly those in poverty, with literacy skills in creative ways.  I also volunteer at Ronald McDonald House once a month and bake in their kitchen!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Community is truly everything.  The connections I have made from the start are the reason I have been able to grow.  My heart is so full because of all the people who have shared, referred, or reviewed Becca’s Book Box.  Being a mom in this community is something I am grateful for as well.

Tips for Balancing it all? Motherhood, career, family and social life?

As a first time mom, it has taken me awhile to get my groove.  Finding itty bitty bits of time for myself, finding joy in being present with my family, and finding time to connect with friends has been all I could come up with to make it all work!

What is the best advice you have received as a mom?

“Read all the books, but your baby is not.”  I love to read all the books, all the blogs, all the things, but following my own Mama heart is the best way to parent and the best way to love my kiddo.

Tried and True kid’s products?

My little guy has super sensitive skin so I love everything California Baby.  The soap, shampoo, and sunscreen are all awesome.  My other favorite product and fix-all is the Weleda Diaper Cream.  It is magic in a tube and I swear by it!

One thing you couldn’t live without as a Mom?

Coffee and our stroller!  Both are staples every single day!
