Summer means pool time, cook-outs, and drinks on the porch, but for Laney and her team at Reusch Interior Design it also means remodeling season! Behind bathrooms, kitchen remodels are their most requested service and for good reason—a newly remodeled kitchen packs the biggest punch for both home enjoyment & resale, but they can also be the most challenging to design and the most costly remodel to conquer. Check out some of their favorite kitchen remodeling tips below!
Hire the BEST contractor that your timeline and budget will allow. The best contractors tend to be the busiest and sometimes the most expensive. In our experience, the bigger and more professional the team is, the more the labor will cost you. Of course, smaller contractors are capable of doing great work, but prepare for longer lead times and less resources. Whomever you choose to go with, ask for references and fully check them out before committing.
Consider a custom range hood for a unique look. Range hoods have evolved from grimy eyesores to works of art. And why shouldn’t an appliance of such large size also make a big, stylish statement? A white shaker kitchen can go from a bit predictable to jaw dropping with the right “hood jewelry”. Available in all shapes, sizes, colors, and materials, your range hood can be both functional and a showstopper.
Pay attention to your cabinet details. Adding cabinetry trim pieces will instantly elevate the look of your kitchen. Most cabinet companies have so many options to choose from and the sky is truly the limit if you are going with a custom line. Spend the extra time to select light rails (a trim piece at the bottom of your upper cabinets), the crown (the trim at the top of the your uppers, sometimes double stacked to hit the ceiling), and the decorative moldings on the sides and backs of exposed cabinets. In addition to these details we love to add a base wrap to the lower cabinets in lieu of a standard toe kick, which gives the cabinets a more built-in, substantial feel.
